The Nelson’s Project

Former Bakery Redevelopment, Wiveliscombe

Bolton Construction and Restoration recently completed the first phase of a full property redevelopment on Golden Hill, Wiveliscombe.

The property was originally a period residential house with a former shop and bakery, offering strong character but requiring substantial refurbishment. Our work focused on restoring and modernising the main house while retaining its original features, including exposed beams, timber floors and period internal doors.

The completed first phase is now a four-bedroom family home with modern bathrooms, a shaker-style kitchen, utility area, garage and improved garden. The wider plot is being developed in phases, with the second part of the project progressing separately following planning approval.

This project reflects the type of work we specialise in: older buildings, sensitive refurbishments, conversions and practical problem solving on complex residential projects.

Grade II Listed Building Restoration at Gaulden Manor

Bolton Construction and Restoration carried out a full restoration and refurbishment project at Gaulden Manor, a Grade II* listed historic manor house in Tolland, Somerset.

The works involved the careful repair, restoration and improvement of the building’s historic fabric, with a focus on preserving the character of the manor while addressing areas of deterioration, damp and previous wear. The project included internal and external refurbishment, traditional stonework repairs, fireplace restoration, damp management solutions, lime pointing, lime rendering and lime-based repair work.

As a Grade II* listed building, Gaulden Manor required a sensitive and considered approach. The aim was not to over-modernise the property, but to restore and improve it using methods and materials appropriate to its age, construction and architectural significance.

Listed Farmhouse and Cottage Refurbishment

Bolton Construction and Restoration completed a two-part refurbishment project involving a listed farmhouse and adjoining listed cottage.

The works included floor excavation, underpinning, underfloor heating, drainage improvements, damp remediation and full internal refurbishment. The farmhouse element focused on a full kitchen refurbishment with structural support works, a new floor build up and underfloor heating. The cottage required more extensive works, including major damp investigation, drainage improvements, underpinning, floor excavation and internal restoration.

The project required careful sequencing and a sensitive approach to historic fabric, balancing modern comfort, structural stability and moisture management with the character and behaviour of traditional buildings.
